Youth Deer Hunt

A special youth only hunt is scheduled for mid October for young hunters under the age of 16.  Youth hunters can use their choice of weapon, including rifle.   Kids have the perfect opportunity to take a buck of a lifetime before any other rifle hunters.  Leaves are usually still on the trees and the temperatures are usually warm and comfortable for hunting.  The young hunter should have the chance to see many bucks and large groups of deer before they separate for the rut.  Its also not uncommon for hunters to see bucks fighting to determine dominance for mating.  We have many blinds already setup and available for your use.  We love having young hunters and to see the expressions on their faces when they shoot that first deer or to take a trophy of a lifetime is priceless.

Hunters are required by Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife to wear hunters orange at all time while they are in the field.  Hunter orange must be solid, unbroken and visible from all sides on the head, back and chest (orange hat and vest will meet these requirements).  Persons under 16 years old hunting deer with a firearm or muzzleloader must be accompanied by an adult who shall be in a position and able to take immediate control of the junior hunter's firearm at all times while hunting.

We recommend for the rifle hunters to use a 30-06 or larger caliber rifle, although it is more important for the young hunter to be comfortable with his/her weapon of choice.  Muzzleloaders can also be used, all muzzleloaders are legal including modern in-line rifles with scopes.  Its a good idea for the hunters to shoot and be confident with the weapon they choose.  All hunters choosing to hunt from any elevated blind (either your portable or our permanent) must wear a saftey belt at all times. Hunters are welcome to bring their own portable blinds to use.

All resident and nonresident hunters born on or after January 1, 1976, must carry a valid hunter education course completion card while hunting.  Children under 10 years old may hunt without a hunter education card, but must be accompanied by an adult who can take control of the firearm at any time necessary.  No one adult shall accompany more than two children at one time.
